This collection of questions and answers is about human suffering. A person asks why God created man although He knew man would suffer. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.) explains that the five elements and illusion are subject to destruction, but Truth will never perish. Likewise, if we realize the Truth and become true human beings, we will not experience the difficulties associated with this impermanent world. God is the only One who can end our sorrows. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.) illustrates this by relating his own experience of suffering:
One day he was visiting a hospital in Sri Lanka at the time of an epidemic. As soon as he entered, he suddenly became sick. He experienced the sorrow of being alone in his pain. Nobody helped him and he felt deserted. This experience taught him that only God’s Truth can clear away our unavoidable suffering. He explains that as soon as we attempt to see the Truth, its Light will hurt the darkness within us, but once the Truth resonates, the pain will disappear. Darkness and light will always fight with each other. If we want the Truth, we have to be strong and reject everything else.
