The scope of this book of letters is so vast that a description of it would have to include a description of God, a description of everything in all the universes created by God, and a description of how one who had become a perfected human being would be able to understand absolutely everything and explain it compassionately to others. It is impossibly difficult to describe even the physical events described in the letters. This book simply has to be read to be understood.
Beginning a correspondence that reads like a mystical experience, a young woman who had been searching for truth in the wilderness of the world sent a letter from Philadelphia, “the City of Brotherly Love,” addressed to Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.) on the island that had once been known as the mythical Serendib, over eighty six hundred miles away. Their correspondence detailed her struggle and determination to meet him.
The majority of the subsequent letters in this book were written by Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.) to the young Americans who became the followers that he called his children during his first and second visits to the US in the early 1970s. He lovingly instructed us to share these letters with each other and to publish them in a book so we could all receive all of them.
“Because the Fellowship is a flower, all of my children are the petals.”
“You must remember that the heart of each one of you belongs to God and God alone, and therefore it is your bounden duty to keep Him and Him alone within the innermost recesses of your hearts. I am saying this with the utmost Certainty and with the utmost Truth. Further, it is not possible for me to write to each member of the Fellowship, but remember that, though you all, my children, may have separate bodies, your Souls, your Wisdom, your Truth, and your Lives are all within the Soul of my body, and they exist as One Life.”
“The fact that you have not seen me physically is no barrier at all. In fact, on the levels of Wisdom and Truth, we see each other all the time.”
May the flower that is the Fellowship of humankind grow to become more and more fragrant and beautiful! May we never forget that we belong to God! May there indeed be no barriers between any of us!
